The refresher courses are purpose designed to allow food handlers to update and improve their food safety skills with minimal disruption to their work routine.


This qualification can be delivered in two ways allowing choice between the options at any time to best suit the learner’s needs with the added advantage that there is the opportunity for individual candidates to access learning at home.

Updating food hygiene knowledge for all food

  • Level 2 Award in Food Safety in Catering (Refresher)
  • Level 2 Award in Food Safety for Manufacturing (Refresher)
  • Level 2 Award in Food Safety for Retail (Refresher)

About the qualification

All candidates who have taken the CIEH Level 2 Awards in Food Safety are recommended to take a refresher course three years after completion.

  • Refresh your knowledge of food safety
  • Complete the CIEH Level 2 Food Safety qualification portfolio
  • Encourage best practice within the workplace

Outline programme

The refresher qualification covers the following topics:

  • Responsibilities for food safety
  • Personal hygiene
  • The work environment
  • Product safety

Study at work or at home

Delivery Option 1

  • Duration: Half-day programme
  • Delivery style: Remote completion of workbook followed by one hour discussion session
  • Assessment: 30 multiple choice examination
  • Prerequisite: CIEH Level 2 Award in Food Safety 
  • Suggested progression: CIEH Level 3 Award in Food Safety
