Paul Bell
is the Associate with the greatest experience in training and development with a number of years experience of delivering training to a broad spectrum of learners, providing training in the UK, Europe and on an international basis.

Paul just like the other Principles of Acumen Associates is also from an industry and commerce background, and was engaged as a ‘special projects operations manager’ at the Grimsby College, latterly Paul was the Managing Director of STCS Ltd and most recently has established Acumen Training and Development Ltd.

Paul takes a ‘man of Yorkshire’ view of cost and considers that offering quality and cost effective solutions are vital for business sustainability

For over 25 years Paul Bell worked in the food processing and manufacturing industry (from factory floor to the boardroom) before leaving the sector several years ago and establishing his own training and development company.

"I consider that it was the years spent in industry most of which in senior management roles that not only provided the skills of operating a business but also gave me a fantastic insight into the training and development needs of people from a variety of backgrounds and experiences"

"I had been involved with delivering training whilst working in industry and had been directly involved in several development programmes for people working in the sector, also in the day to day operation of a factory site you quickly develop numerous business and people skills" (something I think other operations managers will identify with)

"I firmly believe that this real world background allows me to be a better Practitioner and enables me to understand the client’s needs much more easily"

This line of thought was demonstrated well when Paul was chosen to be the operations manager of a successful 18 month programme working with 14 Irish food companies on a range of operational improvement projects.

Experience tells us that training and consultancy in a company are inextricably linked, with the development and sustainability of the business often reliant on both, Paul easily moves between consultant and trainer, although of late, learning provision has been his major role with specific consultancies been undertaken by the other Principles of Acumen Associates.

Paul’s training style is open and engaging allowing him to create rapport with students very easily; it is an approach that creates a successful learning environment with, if we dare say it, ‘a level of enjoyment for the learner’.

He is also a student himself and as part of his own continuous professional development in early 2009 Paul completed a NLP Business Diploma, later in the year then going on to study for and become certified as a Practitioner of Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP) himself. In 2009 Paul also attained the City and Guilds PTLLS award at level 4 and subsequently is now a registered tutor for the delivery of the PTLLS level 3 award; an award now able to be offered by Acumen Training and Development.

Currently Paul is a member of a cohort working towards the ILM 7 qualification ‘Executive Coaching and Leadership Mentoring’

“I chose to undertake the ILM qualification to further underpin the experiential knowledge gained in coaching and mentoring in doing so it has allowed me to benchmark my own performance against an accredited standard”
